Gillingham Youth for Christ

MESSAGE FROM TRUSTEES

Gillingham Youth For Christ started 18 years ago with the aim of “Taking good news relevantly to every young person in Gillingham”.  During this time, GYFC has been serving the young people of our town and has seen lives impacted, helped and changed by sharing the love of Jesus with them in a variety of ways and settings, from drop-ins to school playgrounds, from the High Street to the football cage, in groups and individually.

Over the past few years, it has been a very difficult period financially for the charity. In common with many charities, the pressure on individuals, families and churches to trim and target their giving has meant that we have had to make difficult decisions.

Most of GYFC’s income comes as a result of the prayerful and faithful giving from gift-aided donations, churches and other one-off donations.  Comparing the figure from 2013 with that of 2015, this key income has dropped almost by half in two years.

At the GYFC AGM on 28 April 2016, the decision was made to close the charity. It was mentioned that GYFC had served a generation of young people and indeed those born at the same time as GYFC was founded would now be too old to attend the drop-ins.  It was felt that the work God had done through GYFC in Gillingham was complete and that now was the time for the work to be taken up in other ways and by other organisations.

The trustees would like to thank all those people who have shared in the work of GYFC, as paid employees, volunteers, prayer supporters and financial supporters.

It is intended to hold a thanksgiving service later in the year for all that God has done in and through GYFC.

At the AGM, we knew that whatever the future held for GYFC, God held that future and we must thank Him above all else for the amazing work He has done through GYFC here in Gillingham.
